Not long ago we opened nicagames.com, a free games portal we have been building one game at a time. One of the titles people keep coming back to is our Wordle en Español Ilimitado: the word-guessing game everybody knows, but with real Spanish words and without the “come back tomorrow” wall. Today we are taking the next step. That same game is now a mobile app, and it is called Word of Letters.
It is also the start of something bigger. Little by little, we are turning the games we publish on NicaGames into mobile apps. Word of Letters is the first one, and it sets the foundation for the rest.
Why a Spanish Wordle that is actually unlimited
The original game gives you one word per day. That is part of its charm, but it also means that if you enjoy it, you run out of game in about three minutes. And most versions in Spanish are either translations that feel off, or clones that still stick to one puzzle per day.
We wanted something different: a Spanish Wordle you can play as many times as you like, whenever you like, with words that a Spanish speaker would actually use. That is what Wordle en Español Ilimitado is on the web, and that is what Word of Letters brings to your phone.
- No daily limit. Finish a word and start the next one right away.
- Pick your length. Words of 4, 5 or 6 letters, so you choose between a quick round and a real challenge.
- Real Spanish. A Spanish keyboard with Ñ, accents handled for you, and at the end of each round you see the word spelled properly along with its definition. You learn something even when you lose.
- Six tries, color hints. Green means right letter in the right spot, yellow means right letter in the wrong spot, gray means it is not in the word. Same rules you already know.
What is new in Word of Letters
Moving to a phone was not just about shrinking the web page. We rebuilt the experience as a native app and used the chance to add things we had wanted for a while:
- Play without signing up. Open the app and start guessing. If you later sign in with Apple or Google, your streak, stats and balance come with you. Nothing is lost.
- Stats and streaks. Games played, win rate, current and best streak, and a chart of how many tries each win took.
- A public leaderboard. Signed-in players compete on the same ranking as the web version.
- A helping hand when you need it. Stuck on the last row? You can watch a short video to get a seventh try, see a clue about the word, or protect your streak after a loss. It is always optional. To keep the ranking fair, rounds won with help count for your personal stats but never for the public leaderboard.
- Colorblind mode. The whole game speaks in color, and green versus yellow is the worst possible pair for the most common kinds of color blindness. Colorblind mode changes the palette and adds a shape to each tile, so the hints never depend on color alone.
- Light and dark themes, sound and vibration settings, and support for a physical keyboard.
- Share your result with the classic emoji grid, without giving away the word.
The app and the web share the same game engine. The secret word never travels to your phone before you finish, so nobody can peek at it, and your progress stays the same whether you play on the web or in the app.
Why “Word of Letters” and not “Wordle”
Wordle is a registered trademark, so the app needed a name of its own. We chose Word of Letters because it describes exactly what you do: find the word, letter by letter. On the web, the game is still where it has always been, as Wordle en Español Ilimitado on NicaGames.
From a web portal to a family of apps
When we launched NicaGames we said we would grow it one game at a time, and only add something when it felt good to play. We are applying the same rule to mobile.
Word of Letters is more than one app. Behind it we built a shared foundation for every NicaGames app that comes next: sign-in and account linking, the connection to our servers, the look and feel, accessibility options, and everything needed to publish on the App Store and Google Play. The next game that makes the jump will not start from zero; it will start from here.
We are not going to promise a long list of dates. What we can say is that the games you already know from the portal (crosswords, word search, Tablero Nica, the solitaires and the rest) are the natural candidates, and each one will arrive when it plays well on a phone, not before.
Frequently asked questions
Is Word of Letters free?
Yes. The app is free to download and free to play. It shows ads, and the optional help videos are the only way to get an extra try or a clue.
Is it really unlimited?
Yes. There is no one-word-per-day rule. When you finish a word, you can start a new one immediately, in 4, 5 or 6 letters.
Do I need an account?
No. You can play as a guest from the first second. Signing in with Apple or Google is optional and lets you keep your progress across devices and appear on the leaderboard.
Is it available on Android?
Very soon. Word of Letters is already on the App Store for iPhone, and the Google Play version is on its way. In the meantime, Android players can enjoy Wordle en Español Ilimitado in the browser, no download needed.
Can I still play on the web?
Of course. The web version on NicaGames is not going anywhere, and it runs on the same engine as the app.
